Dear members,
Thank you to everyone who has reached out with warm messages regarding my election as Captain. The Board has a big agenda in front of it with the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2022-2026 and other key projects. I intend to publish a Captain’s News each month to keep you informed of what is happening around the Club. My update will include the use of different technologies from time to time such as video content.
In addition to my update, we hope to maximise member communication with the Superintendent’s Report, and the Red Tees (women’s news) both published monthly, in addition to the informative Member’s section on the new website plus the Club’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. I trust you will enjoy reading the August 2022 edition below.

Bar & Restaurant
Click on the following video to see a recorded discussion I had with Jess Doyle, Bar & Restaurant and People & Culture Manager.
Watch out for Friday Night Live, with session musician Matt Doyle (no relation to Jess!) on Friday 12th of August, with happy hour from 5pm – 6.30pm. If this is successful, we would like to continue one Friday Night live every month – so please gather friends, family, neighbours and come along for a great night of live music!
Clubhouse Furniture
Those who have been in the Clubhouse over the past few weeks would have noticed that new chairs have arrived to replace our dwindling stock of ageing chairs. Additionally, we are progressively renovating the existing tables with the first batch of eight due to arrive back in the next week or so.
When finished, the Bar and Restaurant will be more comfortable with better aesthetics, enhancing the member experience and the opportunity to grow functions and external business.
Infrastructure
The Club has commissioned the design work on a golf teaching shed to be positioned adjacent to the Western Practice Fairway plus the expansion of the buggy storage facility next to the Pro Shop. I will share more information about these projects in due course.
Technology
As part of the website redevelopment a RHGC App has been produced. The App is currently in Beta phase and available in the respective Apple and Google stores, free of charge. (Please note: we are aware of a couple of broken or incorrect links, however all key functionality such as bookings is working)
The Club has also invested in a member card system. When this is ready to launch in the coming weeks, you will be able to obtain a membership card from Reception which will contain your personal clubhouse and member information on it. You will be able to swipe the card at the Bar and Restaurant when using any of your clubhouse accounts to pay for food and beverage and the card will identify you as a RHGC member when visiting other clubs.
Environmental Certification
One of the objectives of the Strategic Plan 2022-2026 is to ‘be sustainable’. To this end, the Club is pursuing certification under the Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary Program, which will be the culmination of efforts in achieving environmental excellence and stewardship. We have already started this process as you may have read in Shaun’s Superintendent Report, by replacing select key course maintenance equipment with hybrid technology alternatives.
Driveway Safety
There have been reports of unsafe driving behaviours along Regal Court. The Club encourages all members and visitors to observe a speed limit of 30kmph from the junction of Seven Mile Beach Road and Regal Court through to the carpark in both directions. I ask that you be particularly vigilant when passing neighbouring properties, in consideration of the families that live there. Neighbourhood road safety is on the Clarence City Council agenda and the Club has already been in contact with them regarding Regal Court. Please do the right thing by all members and neighbours when using Regal Court.
Course Care
Lastly, the playing surfaces on the course remain soft following the last few years of high rainfall. Please be considerate of your fellow members by replacing all divots and looking after vulnerable surfaces. Pictured are examples of divots that have been left on the course recently.
I look forward to seeing you around the Club and please do not hesitate to contact me should there be anything that I can help you with.
Yours sincerely,
Richard Denholm
Captain
